Let’s get this party started! Thank you so much for joining me in creating this warm winter blanket! You may notice that I use “interlocking” sometimes and “LFM” or “Locked Filet Mesh” at other times. They all mean the same thing (but it is much quicker to type “LFM”).

If you’re new to my patterns, please note that this is the INTERLOCKING CROCHET VERSION. Go back to the main landing page to find the links to the other sections or for the overlay mosaic version.

If you’re looking for a chart you’ll need to purchase the pattern on Etsy or Ravelry. This free version online contains the written instructions only.

Use code “MILD20” to take 20% off your purchase of the pattern for the duration of the CAL
(offer ends January 31, 2022).

The width of this pattern is adjustable. It is designed as a blanket (six repeats of the pattern), but you can make it larger or smaller. Repeat between the asterisks (*) to get your required width.

Yarn weight and hook size can easily be adjusted, just keep in mind your finished project will use a different amount of yarn and be a different finished size.

Interlocking Crochet Details

  • US crochet terminology
  • Finished measurements approximately 53” x 56”
  • 4.5 mm hook (US7)
  • Worsted weight yarn (3350 – 3425 yards total)
    • Main color (MC) – 1675 yards plus 75 for optional border
    • Accent color (AC) – 1675 yards
  • Gauge: 16 DC x 8 rows = 4”
I’ve used a thinner yarn and smaller hook for this sample; it is only 6″ wide instead of the expected 8.5″.

Interlocking Crochet KEY

AC = accent color (second color used, blue in image above)
MC = main color (first color used, grey in image above)
RS = right side: the side of your work that will show the finished design
WS = wrong side: the back of your project
Front = the side currently facing you
Back = the side not facing you
Ch = chain
Sp = space
Sk = skip a stitch
SC = single crochet: insert hook, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn over, pull through both loops
DC = double crochet: yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull up loop, *yarn over, pull through two loops* twice
TR = treble crochet: yarn over twice, insert hook, yarn over, pull up loop, *yarn over, pull through two loops* three times
F = DC in front, then chain 1
B = DC behind, then chain 1
EB = end stitch in back: using AC, dc into the last AC window, working behind MC
EF = end stitch in front: using AC, dc into the last AC window, working in front of MC
ES = end stitch: dc into the last window space
ACF = bring the AC yarn to the side facing you
ACB = put AC yarn to the side facing away from you

Interlocking Crochet Technique

Chart for Foundation Rows

This pattern has been designed as a blanket but it is very easy to to adjust the width. If you are doing the full blanket you will repeat the instructions between the asterisks (*) six times (the final column in the chart below shows you how many chains and windows to begin with).

If you’re not able to match gauge then your finished measurements will be different, but this chart still should help you determine how many chains or windows to start with.

Foundation Rows

  1. Using MC create 105 windows (for a full blanket, or use chart above to adjust):
    1. I prefer the chainless technique (chain 6, dc into first stitch, chain 1, tr into same space, *chain 1, tr into 2nd part of the previous tr* repeat as many times as needed).
    2. Alternatively, you can Ch 211 + 3 (or 4 if you chain tighter than me), then DC in 6th (or 7th) chain from your hook. *Ch 1, Sk 1, DC* repeat until the end. Place stitch marker so your work doesn’t unravel.
  2. With your AC, Ch 211 +1 (or 2 if you chain tighter). Place MC windows on top of this chain (make sure the end with the stitch marker is at your left) then pull the tail of your AC through the window on the right end (see picture below). DC through the back of the next window into the 6th (or 7th) chain from your hook.
  3. *Ch 1, Sk 1, DC through the back* repeat to end. Place stitch marker so your work doesn’t unravel. Both stitch markers should be on the same end.
Step 2 of foundation trellis.
Foundation windows (MC, black above) showing step 2 where AC (the gold) is put through the window. If you’re left-handed this will be mirrored.

Repeat between asterisks (*) six times for a full blanket.
