Sunflower Garden eBook

Set of 3 large squares

Interlocking & Mosaic

Each of these squares can be crocheted using one of two techniques: interlocking crochet or overlay mosaic crochet.

This eBook uses an adjusted, solid chart for the overlay mosaic crochet option.

Read more about these options at https://ashleeslint.com/tutorials/interlocking-and-mosaic-crochet/

Size

These squares belong in my Large Squares category. They begin with 40 windows when using the interlocking crochet technique. The original chart is 81 x 81; the adjusted solid mosaic chart is 77 x 77.

Sunflower Garden

I’ve been showing teasers of these sunflowers for a few weeks and they are finally ready for you!

Thank you to everyone who helped give me ideas for a title – I ultimately chose to use the one Lucille ‘Hauser’ Schubert suggested because it gives me flexibility in the future if I decide to create more flower eBooks. I don’t have any designed currently, so don’t get too excited 😉 but I like having options.

Video Teaser

My new eBook, Sunflower Garden, contains three large squares: Sunflower, Sunflower AND Leaves, and Sunflower Leaves.

The two squares that have leaves have also been written up with left-pointing versions so you can mix and match more easily. I know that might be a bit confusing… I did make a quick video showing them off.

Techniques

All the patterns in the eBook have written line-by-line instructions and charts for BOTH interlocking crochet and overlay mosaic crochet (adjusted to have the interlocking mesh dots removed).

Sunflower Leaves & Sunflower AND Leaves also have left-handed written instructions for both techniques (so you can decide which way you want the leaves to point).

This set has been updated to include more charts! More details: Sunflower Garden Updated.

Adjusted Mosaic Crochet

The Sunflower square was originally from my 2020 Mother’s Day CAL eBook. The original mosaic version had the mesh dots (because it used the interlocking crochet chart) and that pattern will remain available in the Mother’s Day eBook as it is.

I have updated the individual pattern listing to have all three versions of this pattern (interlocking, mosaic based on interlocking chart, and adjusted mosaic version).

This Sunflower Garden eBook has only the solid adjusted mosaic crochet option (along with the interlocking crochet option).

For more info on the 2020 Mother’s Day Crochet-A-Long see https://ashleeslint.com/2020-mothers-day-cal/

I have created an instant promotion on Ravelry – if you have the Mother’s Day eBook or the Bonus Mother’s Day eBook you can “buy” the Sunflower square for FREE. This gives you access to the updated mosaic version of the pattern without putting too much confusion in the old eBooks.

I crocheted all three designs using the adjusted overlay mosaic crochet technique. Envelope borders were added to hide the cut ends.

Size

There are three large squares in this bundle.

For the interlocking method the chart size is 81 x 81 which means you create 40 windows to start with.

The overlay mosaic versions have been adjusted to remove the unnecessary interlocking mesh dots and extra border lines so the charts are 79 x 79.

All three designs crocheted using the interlocking crochet technique by Nina Mayer.

      Important Details

There are three designs in this eBook.

When you use the interlocking crochet technique the yardage will be the same regardless of which design you are doing because two layers of mesh is two layers of mesh.

With the overlay mosaic crochet technique you will see that the yardage changes slightly depending on which design you’re doing because the dropped double crochets use more yarn than the single crochets in the back loop only.

Each Interlocking crochet (Locked Filet Mesh/ LFM) file includes:

      • line-by-line written pattern
      • instructions on reading a chart
      • one-page chart

      Interlocking Crochet Details

      • Chart is 81 x 81
      • Gauge: 8 (dc, ch) x 8 rows = 4”
      • 20″ x 20″ / 50cm x 50cm
      • 4.5 mm hook (US7)
      • Worsted weight yarn (460 – 510 yards total)
        • Main color (MC) (flower) – 230 yards plus 50 for optional border
        • Accent color (AC) (background) – 230 yards

Nina Mayer crocheted Sunflower 40 using the interlocking crochet technique.

Nina Mayer also crocheted Sunflower and Leaves 40 plus Sunflower Leaves 40 using the interlocking crochet technique.

      Adjusted Overlay Mosaic Crochet

The mosaic crochet charts have been adjusted from their interlocking crochet counterparts. They are solid (there are no interlocking mesh dots on it) and they do not have the unnecessary border lines.

Each Overlay Mosaic Crochet file includes:

      • line-by-line written pattern
      • instructions on reading a chart
      • a two-page chart marked with X’s
