A Cat to Bring Comfort to Other Cats

I am so excited to share my newest pattern with you all! Comfort Cat is one of my largest designs!

Fundraiser for Stray Cats

This cat was drawn by request for a custom pattern. She specifically wanted a pattern with a cat on it so that it could be auctioned off as a fundraiser for stray cats!

I know there’s a lot of crocheters that specifically make for the purpose of donating and you guys are all so generous and I know there are a lot of people and animals that appreciate it!

Quick Details

Marjolijn used the overlay mosaic crochet technique. The pattern also comes with instructions and charts for the interlocking crochet technique (also called Locked Filet Mesh / LFM). The interlocking mesh dots have been removed for the mosaic version of this pattern.

This is one of my largest patterns! If you use the mosaic technique the chart is 279 x 311. If you use the interlocking crochet technique you’ll have 2 extra stitches on each side where the layers get locked together (making the chart 283 x 315).

One of the fun things about using a charted design is that you can really used any yarn weight and an appropriately sized hook and your image will be visible. The final product may be larger or smaller but the image will still be there.

Sizing

My pattern suggests a worsted weight yarn officially. And you’d get a large blanket. About 70? x 80? depending on which technique you use and whether you match gauge (check out the full detailed list below).

I suggest a 4.5 mm hook for interlocking crochet and a 5 mm hook for overlay mosaic crochet. I like smaller holes in the interlocking fabric so I use a smaller hook, but usually worsted weight yarn suggests a 5 or 5.5 mm hook.

Mosaic sample crocheted by Marjolijn (using a 2 mm hook).

Marjolijn’s Blanket

Marjolijn used a 2 mm hook for the 87,110 stitches! *Gasp, big eyes, keep breathing!*

She used 100% cotton from Hobbii which they label as 8/4 (which means fingering weight). It took 3100 meters of the black yarn and 4540 meters of the beige yarn.

If I was really organized I’d have figured out how to get an affiliate link or something. But, that’s just a random mention of the yarn company and I don’t earn anything from linking to them. Maybe someday I will have a yarn contract and I will try to convince you to use a certain type of yarn, but for now I like exploring with lots of yarn companies.

TWO OPTIONS

With one purchase (on Ravelry or Etsy) you’ll have access to two (2) pattern files: one for interlocking crochet and one for overlay mosaic crochet.

Each file contains the full written pattern and then a single-page chart (good for viewing on a screen) and a multi-page chart (for printing).

x-Marked Charts

The mosaic charts have x’s showing where the dropped double crochets go. I also include a chart-reading instruction sheet and a photo tutorial for the optional double envelope border with every pattern.
