Seamless Footballs
This repeatable motif was designed to make a blanket but would also make a great scarf!
I’m not really much of a sports person, but I do have a few other sports-themed patterns on Ravelry. Check them out here.
Interlocking & Mosaic
As with all my designs, Seamless Footballs can be made using either the interlocking crochet technique or the overlay mosaic crochet technique. There are two files.
Each file contains the fully written pattern and a chart so you can use the method you’re most comfortable with.
Repeatable Design
The most exciting thing about this design is the adjustable size. It’s written to be repeated so you can seamlessly make your project as large as you want!
Make a scarf, a baby blanket, or a king size blanket! It’s up to you!
As part of my Designaversary month celebration, everything is 30% off until April 30, 2023 (expired)! This new pattern has been added to that promotion. No code needed. Valid on Ravelry and Etsy.

Two Techniques, Two Files
With one purchase you’ll have access to 2 pattern files: one for the interlocking crochet method and one for the overlay mosaic crochet method.
Each file contains the fully written pattern and a chart.
The mosaic charts have x’s showing where the dropped double crochets go. I also include a chart-reading instruction sheet and a photo tutorial for the optional double envelope border with every pattern.
The interlocking crochet option includes a chart-reading instruction sheet as well.
Both techniques are designed to be repeated while crocheting – so there’s no need to sew motifs or squares together at the end.
As a repeatable design, you get to decide how large to make it!
Wrong Side of Interlocking Crochet Project
As always, I find the “wrong side” of the interlocking crochet version to be intriguing!
I’ve intended for this design to use dark brown as the Main Color / MC / first color used. This photo shows how that would look.
How Large Do you Want it?
You can repeat this pattern in height or width or both.
If you use a lighter weight yarn you might want more repeats so that your finished project ends up a large enough size.
If you need something very specific make sure you do a gauge swatch!
Repeat Instructions for Interlocking Crochet
You can use this pattern to create a blanket as large as you want – the simple locking border lines lock the mesh layers together and the repeated design is marked with asterisks (*). The chart is 39 x 95. The repeatable chart area is 32 x 88.
Width
Main Color (MC) Foundation: start with a base of 19 windows and add 16 windows per repeat. If you are chaining for step one that will be a base of 41 chains and an extra 32 chains for every repeat. Each repeat will add 8” in width.
For step 2 of the foundation rows, using your Accent Color (AC) / background color, start with a base of 39 chains and add 32 chains per repeat.
For example, 5 repeats wide: 8” / 20cm times five equals 40” x 100cm plus the border lines add 2” / 5cm so your blanket will be 42” / 105cm wide. For 5 repeats, you’ll need 83 MC windows / 169 MC chains. For step 2, with the AC, chain 167.
Height
To adjust height, repeat between rows 4 and 91 as many times as desired. Each repeat adds 22” to your project (if you are using the same gauge as listed).
If you want to finish off without getting to row 91 again, just stop before any WS – ACB section and jump to row 92 where it begins with WS – ACFront. And then finish as written.
Repeat Instructions in Mosaic Crochet Pattern
You can make this blanket as large as you want by repeating the design between the asterisks (*).
The chart is 33 x 91. The Joining Stitch and End Stitch are not shown on the chart. The greyed-out column is a balancing stitch to make the final piece more symmetrical (however, please note: the football itself is not symmetrical). The repeatable area is 32 x 88.
To determine the foundation width: using your Main Color (MC) / football color create repeats of 32 +3 FSC.
This means you’ll need a minimum of 35 FSC (this will be 8.25” / 21cm wide) and you’ll add another 32 FSC per repeat. Each repeat will add 8” /20cm (if you match my gauge) in width.
For example, if you want a blanket 6 repeats wide (which would be 48.25” / 123cm), create 195 FSC.
If you’re not using the FSC but are chaining and then turning your work and single crocheting back, you’ll need to add a turning chain to your count. So, for 6 repeats wide you’d chain 196, turn and single crochet back across for a total of 195 SC in your foundation row.
To adjust height, repeat rows 2 through 89 as many times as desired. The first time you finish row 89 your piece will be 22.75” / 58 cm tall (if you met gauge). Each additional repeat will add 22” / 55cm.
You do not need to reach row 90! If you have reached your desired height, you can simply end at that row – but if you want the top and bottom of your blanket to be symmetrical, you’ll need to end with row 90.
