Magic Decanter Crochet-A-Long
Interlocking Crochet, Week 6: Rows 152 – 180 + Border
Week 6
This is our final week of the CAL! We will finish crocheting Magic Decanter and, optionally, add a simple border. Interlocking crochet does not need a border (not the way the overlay mosaic crochet option does) but I find that it does help give it a finished look.

Time to Crochet!
This week we will crochet rows 152 through 180. I put 181 on all the promotional material because I forgot to read the pattern. The chart has 181 rows, but the first row counts as row 0. Therefore, the final row is only 180, not 181.

Optional Border
An interlocking crochet blanket does not need a border. But it can help things to look finished and it always helps my pieces lay a little flatter. I’m not a fan of blocking (let’s talk about that more) so this simple border is how I prefer to finish things off.
Border tutorials on YouTube:
SC Border
Chain 1, put 2 sc in each gap on all four sides. Add an extra chain 2 space in each corner (corner gap will have 2sc, 2ch, 2sc).
Or my preferred method:
Revised SC border
Chain 1, put 1 sc in the MC gap, and then the second sc should pick up one loop of the AC as well as going through the MC gap. Do this in each gap on all four sides. Add an extra chain 2 on the corners.
Blocking
Some of you are familiar with the concept of blocking and for others this will be a brand new idea.
Blocking is not always a required step after crocheting. It’s most often done with garments. It helps your stitches loosen up and drape better.
Blankets are hard to block because of their size. But a lot of people do like to block their blankets.
I most often use acrylic yarn on my blankets that become a hard-working toy in the house. Blocking doesn’t help anything for me so I don’t do it very often.
There are different methods of blocking (water, steam, pins, etc). I will not be going over everything here.
Definitely DO pay attention to the fibre content of your yarn.
Definitely DO block if you want to display your blanket or enter it into a contest.
Finished
I sure hope you’ve enjoyed this process!
I just love seeing everyone’s blankets in my Facebook Group (Ashlee Brotzell Designs). Please share in other Facebook Groups too (depending on their rules) – it really helps me get my name out there when you direct traffic here!
