Many Hearts; Interlocking and Mosaic Crochet Patterns

January 19, 2024

Many Hearts

“Many Hearts” refers to the tiny-nested-heart design used in many of Ashlee Brotzell’s crochet designs!

Interlocking & Mosaic

Each of the patterns in this collection can be made using the interlocking crochet technique or the overlay mosaic crochet technique.

Both colorwork methods come with fully written patterns and charts.

Size

Many Hearts has been written up for various sized squares and used in the background of a few patterns of various sizes.

You’ll also have access to my Doctor Who blanket pattern!

Reversible Hearts

My favorite thing about these little hearts is that when you use theĀ interlocking crochet methodĀ you will create a reversible fabric with hearts onĀ both sides!

They are still adorable when used with the overlay mosaic crochet method even though you won’t be getting a reversed image on the back side.

Nested Hearts

I do use the tiny heart design in quite a few patterns (see more at https://ashleeslint.com/2024/01/15/valentines-crochet-pattern-round-up-hearts-love-romance) butĀ Many Hearts refers specifically to these nested hearts that never end.

Pattern Sizes

I’ve listed the patterns below in order of size. I’ve started with the smallest square I have: Tutorial Hearts 10.

Many of these are also included in the eBook, Hearts, Hearts, Hearts.

Pattern List

Tutorial Hearts 10

Free: online or PDF download or YouTube walk-thru for interlocking option.

Many Hearts 20

This square begins with 20 windows in the interlocking crochet method or 41 stitches in the mosaic method.

These squares will be about 10″ if you meet gauge.

Many Hearts 40

Sample crocheted by Dawn Haynes.

This square begins with 40 windows in the interlocking crochet method or 81 stitches in the mosaic method.

It will be about 20″ if you meet gauge.

Many Hearts Scarf

With the interlocking crochet method you’ll choose whether you want to start from the short end or the long side.

The mosaic option is done from the long end which means your cut ends turn into fringe at the short ends of your scarf!

Many Hearts Shawl

This is really just a larger version of the scarf.

With the interlocking crochet method you’ll choose whether you want to start from the short end or the long side.

The mosaic option is done from the long end which means your cut ends turn into fringe at the shorter ends.

Repeatable Many Hearts

I have a full collection of designs in different sizes using this nested heart design. They are titledĀ Many Hearts ## where the number at the end of the title tells you the size of the design.

ThisĀ Repeatable Many Hearts pattern lets you decide the finished size!

Three Techniques?

My designs are always written up for TWO techniques. So why are there three samples shown here?

I’ve included the Tunisian Mosaic Crochet sample!

The bottom is the Tunisian, then there’s the overlay mosaic, and at the top is the interlocking crochet sample.

Each sample is two repeats wide, one repeat tall. Comparison of yardage found here.

Repeatable Many Hearts

Wrong Sides

Each technique produces hearts on the right side (the front, shown above) but there are differences in the wrong sides.

Tunisian Mosaic Crochet

I used this design,Ā Repeatable Many Hearts, to showcase my tutorial on Tunisian Mosaic Crochet! It is not a full walk-thru of the pattern, it is just a stitch tutorial.

There’s a video on YouTube and you can also try my photo tutorial on my website: ashleeslint.com/tunisianmosaiccrochet

Why Repeatable?

When I first started designing I had no idea that people were so fond of designs that repeating. I like the big images (like Brotzell Tiger King).

I have made a few designs that are smaller and require repeating, but I also have a lot of older patterns that are small squares and I think some of them will need to be updated to include instructions on how to repeat them because they would work for that but aren’t currently being shown in that way.

Video List

Repeatable Many HeartsĀ is small enough that I was able to create videos showing the full pattern walk-thru forĀ each technique!

The left-handed videos are mirror-images of the right-handed videos. I flipped the videos because I’m not left-handed myself.
