July Dog
July Dog is our seventh pattern in the 2024: A Year of Dogs series. This large square features a handsome Germam Shepherd. Quick video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/9cFyIjXvHhc
Crochet Colorwork
July Dog, like all the squares in this series, can be done using your choice of colorwork technique: Interlocking crochet or overlay mosaic crochet.
You’ll receive the fully written pattern and charts for both techniques. The mosaic crochet option uses an adjusted chart that is solid in the solid areas (so you don’t see any of the interlocking mesh dots when you use the mosaic technique).
January Trial
If you’re not ready to commit to the full eBook of all 12 dog squares, why not just try January Dog first?
If you later decide you DO want the eBook, the cost of January Dog will be deducted from your purchase of the eBook!
Available on Ravelry only, no code needed, cannot be combined with other offers.
Wrong Side of July Dog
While creating the pattern files this month I noticed that Microsoft Word described the photo of the wrong side of my interlocking crochet version of July Dog like this: “A knitted square depicting a dinosaur”.
The photo was uploaded with the tail at the bottom (so perhaps that gave it more of a dinosaur look?) and I know the wrong side looks wrong but I still see a dog.
I’ve done a quick 14 second video showing the back of the mosaic square this month. You can check that out on YouTube: https://youtube.com/shorts/6Q4l22T5gRI
Joining Squares
With interlocking crochet, it’s relatively easy to join the squares. With overlay mosaic crochet you have to deal with the cut ends first.

We are still rocking the neutral colors with these realistic dog squares! I highly recommend using a dark color (like black) as the MC (Main Color) to keep the faces and other details clear on these dog squares.
Thank you to Anonymous Squirrel, CrochetCarob, CynCityCrochet, Eva, Linda Bakker, Maja Serec, and Margaret Maillet for testing 2024: A Year of Dogs.

Overlay Mosaic Crochet
The mosaic crochet version of each dog square uses an adjusted chart. This means I’ve removed the interlocking mesh dots and unneccessary border lines. Read more about the differences at https://ashleeslint.com/tutorials/interlocking-and-mosaic-crochet/.
