Ocean-Themed Pattern Round-Up

This round-up of my ocean-themed patterns includes any of my designs that make me think of the open waters. I was surprised at how many I have!

I hope these themed-posts will help people find something that interests them without having to wade through hundreds of patterns that don’t.

Canada’s Geography

I was born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada. We are pretty much right in the middle of Canada (looks almost like a rectangle) and very far from any ocean.

But my mom was born and raised in Nova Scotia (the province colored red in the map image below) and as I was growing up she talked a lot about the ocean.

List of Ocean-Themed Patterns

I’ve organized this list by size. I put baby blankets last because there’s so many ocean-themed baby blankets!

Click on the photos to learn more about that design and find the links to Ravelry and Etsy.

A Freebie!

This ocean-themed design is not for sale – it’s FREE!

Free: Mosaic Coral Strip

This pattern is part of a free group Crochet-A-Long (CAL). It’s only available for the mosaic crochet technique.

Other

This category is for ocean-themed designs that aren’t in one of the blanket categories.

Waves Shawl

This shawl can be made using interlocking crochet or overlay mosaic crochet.

This is one of my old designs so there’s no web page for it.

You can find it on my Webshop, Ravelry, and Etsy.

Waves Scarf

If you don’t want to make the whole Waves Shawl, perhaps a scarf is a better size?

This is an old pattern that doesn’t have a page on my website, but you can find it on my Webshop, Ravelry, or Etsy.

Sample crocheted by Claudia using the interlocking crochet technique. Mosaic crochet option aslo included.

Waves 20

Waves 20

This small square uses a portion of the waves from the previous two items listed. You’ll find larger squares with waves further down in the list (All The Waves & Cruise Waves).

This is also one of my old designs so there’s no web page for it. Clicking the image takes you to the Ravelry listing.

It’s currently not available on Etsy.

Interlocking crochet sample crocheted by Kate Dudman.

Fishies Scarf

Fishies Scarf

This scarf uses almost the same design as what’s found on Fishies 20.

It’s another old pattern that doesn’t have a page on my website, but you can find it on my Webshop, Ravelry, or Etsy.

Sample crocheted by Anonymous Squirrel using interlocking crochet technique; pattern comes with mosaic option too.

Fishies 20

This small square has a lot of little fish. My favorite part is that with the interlocking crochet technique the ‘wrong side’ has the exact same fish swimming in the opposite direction!

There is also an overlay mosaic crochet option included.

This is one of my old designs so there’s no web page for it. Clicking the image takes you to the Ravelry listing.

It’s currently not available on Etsy.

Fishies Too 20

Fishies Too 20

This small square has a lot of little fish AND some bigger fish.

This is also one of my old designs so there’s no web page for it. Clicking the image takes you to the Ravelry listing.

It’s currently not available on Etsy.

Fishing Hooks Scarf

You need water to go fishing, so I’ve included this scarf in my ocean-themed list!

This is an old pattern that doesn’t have a page on my website, but you can find it on my Webshop, Ravelry, or Etsy.

June Gnome

This large square showcases a gnome who is trying to catch a fish. I don’t really think of the ocean with this one, but since I included the Fishing Hooks Scarf I figured this one fit the bill too.

July Gnome

This large square features a gnome at the beach. He’s got his swim cap on and his flip flops ready!

Larger Blankets

This category is for ocean-themed blanket designs that aren’t in one of the other blanket categories. These blankets are larger than those in the baby blanket or toddler blanket categories.

Into the Ocean

This blanket features waves surrounded by different waves! If you were in the ocean I imagine that’s how it would feel.

Bubbles the Sea Turtle

This is one of my most popular designs! “Bubbles” is a full size blanket.

Toddler Blankets

This category is for ocean-themed blanket designs that aren’t listed above in the larger blankets section and are too big for the baby blanket category.

With worsted weight yarn, a toddler blanket will be about 40″ / 101cm.

Seahorse Dance

I designed this blanket when I was drawing up the baby blanket eBooks but it wasn’t until I finished drawing it that I realized I had used the wrong chart size so it wouldn’t fit in that set.

Extra Large Cruise Squares

These designs were created for an interlocking crochet lesson on The Crochet Crowd’s finale cruise.

They also come with a mosaic crochet option.

They are actually slightly smaller than the toddler blanket category but larger than the baby blankets.

The bundle contains:

  • Cruise Lighthouse
  • Cruise Waves (with or without “TCC”)
  • Cruise Whales
  • Cruise Finale Whales

The first three patterns in this list are also available separately.

Baby Blankets

This section has the most ocean-themed designs because of the two ocean-themed eBooks I created!

These designs will be about 30″ / 76cm when you use worsted weight yarn. If that feels too small for a blanket, maybe you’d like to join a few together and make a bigger blanket!
