November Dragon

November Dragon” is our 11th large square in 2025’s “Year of…” series of interlocking and mosaic crochet patterns. See more details about this set at https://ashleeslint.com/year-of/2025-year-dragons/.

February Dog

This heart-shaped dragon is a play on my “February Dog” square from 2024! My husband suggested it (thanks!). One of my tester’s wrote a poetic story to go with it; scroll down or click here to read it.

Paty’s Poem

One of my testers, PATYCréations, created a delightful little story to go along with this month’s square! She speaks French so I’ve included her actual words and the English translation from Facebook.

Original French

Bonjour,
Alors, convaincus ? Je suis le préféré d’Ashlee ?
Bonne journée

English Translation

Hello,
I am the November Dragon.
In the autumn mist of the northern hemisphere, I dress in blue on the right side, to remind you of the summer sky. But on the upside, I wrap myself in mist so you remember that winter skies can be just as blue ?
Comfortably perched on my elbows, heh… Excuse me! My wings ?, I’m preying on the days that are getting shorter.
I know I’m Ashlee’s favorite ?
Do you doubt it? Look at me closely: my body forms a heart, the design that my creator loves most. And in this position, where I feel relaxed, I do the back round, like the cats, Ashlee’s totem animal ? Ok, ok, I do the cat-round back, but I admit it’s much more practical to swing comfortably, like I’m settled in a chair. hammock.
So, are you convinced? I’m ashlee’s favorite ?
Have a nice day

Year’s Progress

We now have 11 of 12 squares finished this year. I can sometimes forget about the progress I’m making when my squares are just being ignored in a drawer all year so I like to see it altogether and boost that feeling of accomplishment now and then!

Also, it’s ok if you haven’t managed to keep up this year; yarn is patient!

Wrong Side of November Dragon

As with all my designs, the right side and wrong side will look different depending on which technique you are using.

Interlocking crochet creates an almost opposite image while overlay mosaic crochet just creates stripes. You can often see a faint illusion of the front.

November Dragon Testers

The 2025: A Year of Dragons series was tested by Altona Newcombe, Angela, Anonymous Squirrel, Cindy Daling, CynCityCrochet, Divya Tellakula, Eva, Henriette van Wyk, Kami, Karen, Keni927, Kim, Linda Bakker, Maja Serec, Marie Sparks, Monique, Nancy McKain, On a Poad Trip, PATYCréations, Pleva, Roxy’s Yarnstitchery, Sandi Willoughby, Scorpios Hook, and Sonjia Schultz.

Thank you everyone!!

Color Choice

strongly recommend using a dark color as the Main Color (MC / first color used) for these dragon squares.

I also recommend using two plain colors. Self-striping and variegated yarns can look really great in some projects but often end up making it hard to see the design. Choose yarn colors with care!

However, creativity can not always be stifled and we like experimenting!

Check out some of the tester’s colors and see if it helps you decide!

Important Details for November Dragon

Each month’s design comes with the fully written pattern and charts for two colorwork techniques: interlocking crochet and overlay mosaic crochet.

Brackets are used in the written pattern to indicate repeated sections. See my detailed explanation: https://ashleeslint.com/2020/08/29/brackets-in-crochet-patterns/ or watch it in action with this mosaic crochet sample at https://youtu.be/IW-vtpHTIjs.

The mosaic crochet version of each dragon square is a solid design. I’ve removed the interlocking mesh dots and the unneccessary double-border lines. Read more about the differences at https://ashleeslint.com/tutorials/interlocking-and-mosaic-crochet/.
