2022 September Cat

Each month in 2022 I have been publishing a new cat pattern! This month’s square can be used in the full blanket or it can be the “v” in “Love” along with 2022 March Cat, 2022 June Cat, and December Cat (which hasn’t been published yet!

The interlocking pattern has been updated as of 3pm on September 1, 2022 – You can see the mistake in a lot of these photos but the correct version of this pattern should look like CarolinevdB’s mosaic sample. My corrected interlocking samples are shown in this video below. (If you can’t see the mistake, it is right where the tail goes straight up – shouldn’t be a bulky section).

Flippers, our orange cat, is helping me show the corrected “September Cat” squares.

You can grab the eBook (which will be updated monthly and is a great deal!), 2022: A Year of Cats or just pick your favorite squares. The eBook and the individual squares are available on Ravelry and Etsy. You also have the option of buying the eBook directly from me here on my website (and you’ll have the monthly updates emailed to you).

All of these links are just to the side if you’re using a browser window, or at the bottom if you’re viewing on your mobile (click here to jump to the September Cat links, or click below to view more about the eBook).

No matter what platform you use to get your copy of ‘September Cat’, you will receive two files (one for each technique).

You will receive one file containing:

  • the interlocking written line-by-line pattern
  • a one-page chart (81 x 81)
Sample crocheted by Maja Serec. Wrong side shown. Black used as MC.

And another file with:

  • the mosaic written line-by-line pattern (including instructions for an envelope border)
  • an X-marked chart (77 x 77)

The interlocking mesh dots and border lines have been removed for the overlay mosaic version of the pattern.

Overlay Mosaic Crochet sample by CarolinevdB

The Locked Filet Mesh (LFM) interlocking crochet method uses only chain spaces and double crochets to create a mesh; two colors are worked alternately which creates the pattern.

Mosaic crochet is single crochet and double crochet stitches. The double crochet stitches cover some of the other color’s single crochet stitches to create the design. My patterns instruct you to cut your yarn at the end of each row. The back is striped but often gives a faint impression of the pattern on the front (sort of like illusion knitting). See an example here.

I have YouTube tutorials available for both crochet methods! Follow this link to get to my YouTube channel and find my other social links.

Maja Serec crocheted this sample of “September Cat” using the interlocking crochet method. Black is used as the MC. Her fluffy cat and hilarious book make the picture one of my favorites!

My Son’s Birthday Sale

Birthdays are a big deal in this household. We always have balloons hanging from doorways when the kids wake up and we have a special Birthday banner we have been using for a few years. Plus, we do the typical gifts and cake.

I like to make my own cake for the kids. Depending on their mood sometimes they help me. I try to have fun with it and make memories, not perfection.

This year we did a pretty simple cake for my son’s 5th birthday. It was supposed to be rainbow icing but my rainbow colors got too mashed together and turned peachy. His favorite color is orange anyway so he likes it.

I also made him this amazing little dragon amigurumi! I’m proud of it – it even has wire in the wings. I used a free pattern on Ravelry: https://ravel.me/baby-dragon-amigurumi-plush-toy

Remi’s new dragon flying in the mountains 😅🤣

Birthday Sale

I wanted to do something fun and original that would give my customers a good deal (so you can share the happy feelings we have in this household with all the birthday fun) but also represent my little 5 year old boy.

So I’ve decided to pick 5 patterns that will each be 50% off until 11:59 pm CST, March 13, 2022). No code needed.

Birthday Cupcake.

The relevance is pretty obvious: happy birthday! 😊

This great green sample was crocheted by Angie!

Preemie Love Blanket.

Originally designed with my eldest daughter in mind, this blanket was one of Remi’s favorites and he was really sad when I gave “his” blanket away. Of course, I didn’t realize he loved it and had claimed it until it was gone in the mail.

Dinosaur Stomp.

I drew this for Remi but it is still waiting on my to do list. Cue the mom guilt. I’m just going to do a little yarn shopping now… brb 🤣

(Brb means “be right back” but I’m just pretending, I still have more pattern sales to share with you before I go get lost in the online yarn stores!)

Baby Sea Turtle.

I drew this little blanket for Remi as well, and I even crocheted it for him!

He was obsessed with turtles for awhile and every now and then it will pop back up as his favorite thing but this blanket never reached peak snuggle status. It might be because I used a strange yarn (the texture is fluffy but sparkly and scratchy).

Excavator 40 and Firetruck 40.

I just couldn’t decide which of these squares represented Remi more so I decided they could both be on the list.

I was definitely thinking of him as I crocheted the Firetruck (it now sits in a bag full of squares, waiting to be used as something more important) but I am not sure what Miloslava did with her Excavator sample.

They have both been added to Etsy just now (previously were only available on Ravelry).

There you have it! I hope you’ll enjoy celebrating my little boy’s birthday with me!

Remember, these 5 patterns (ok, there are 6 patterns actually) will each be 50% off until 11:59 pm CST, March 13, 2022). No code needed.

Applicable on “Birthday Cupcake”, “Preemie Love Blanket”, “Dinosaur Stomp”, “Baby Sea Turtle”, “Excavator 40”, & “Firetruck 40”.

2022 Valentine’s Bundle of One Blanket and Two Large Squares

I was never one of those teenage girls who had perfect handwriting or dotted their i‘s with little hearts. My hand could never move as fast as my thoughts and I just wanted to get the words on paper as quickly as possible.

That translated to some messy handwriting… but some carefree art!

This little bundle of patterns feels like the swirly doodles of grade school where crushes and who-likes-who are a major distraction from math and science. I like the carefree fun in these lines.

There are two large squares (chart size 81 x 81; 40 windows to start with when using interlocking) and one blanket (chart size 161 x 161; 80 windows in the foundation for interlocking) in this set. You can join all three together or use the squares as pillows or join the squares to other squares for a blanket of your own.

The name for the baby blanket, “My Heart is Full of Love“, comes from the cliche saying that I said repeatedly every time I had a new baby. Your arms get full, but your heart gets fuller! **I added “of love” to the title on Ravelry because I didn’t realize another designer already used that title.**

You’ll notice that the mosaic sample (pink and white in the images above) has the interlocking mesh dots as part of its chart. Lately I’ve been adjusting my mosaic pieces to be more solid but this set has not been adjusted.

The square titled “Flying Hearts” looks like wings to me. And “Swirly Hearts” is just the description of what I see as well. Both of the samples below were crocheted by Angela Kermack using the mosaic technique.

This eBook is on both Ravelry and Etsy. Each piece in this bundle is available separately on Ravelry as well.

For the blanket (My Heart is Full of Love):

  • Chart is 161 x 161
  • Finished measurements approximately 40” x 40” / 101cm x 101cm
  • 4.5 mm hook (US7)
  • Gauge: 16 DC x 8 rows = 4”
  • Worsted weight yarn
  • Interlocking yardage: (1820-1870 yards total)
    • Main color (MC) – 910 yards plus 50 for optional border
    • Accent color (AC) – 910 yards
  • Overlay Mosaic Yardage (1975 – 2475 yards)
    • Main color – 925 yards
    • Contrasting color – 1050 yards
    • Plus, optional envelope border: 500 yards

For the large squares (Flying Hearts & Swirly Hearts):

  • Chart is 81 x 81
  • Finished measurements approximately 20” x 20” / 51cm x 51cm
  • 4.5 mm hook (US7)
  • Gauge: 16 DC x 8 rows = 4”
  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • Interlocking yardage: (460 – 485 yards total)
    • Main color (MC) – 230 yards plus 25 for optional border
    • Accent color (AC) – 230 yards
  • Overlay Mosaic Yardage (530 yards)
    • Main color – 265 yards
    • Contrasting color – 265 yards

Forever Be My Always, Crochet Blanket

There’s a quote written in cursive on this blanket that says, “you will forever be my always” next to two rings on a cross. This romantic blanket is made sideways (working with the long side instead of the shorter side) and it comes with right- and left-handed instructions.

The overlay mosaic crochet pattern differs from the interlocking crochet pattern: the mesh dots have been removed from the mosaic version.

Interlocking versus mosaic version

You could get this one finished in time for Valentine’s Day! Or, perhaps for an anniversary? Or in memory of a loved one? I have some friends getting married soon, I’m going to see if I can finish it in time for them.

Many Hugs: Baby Blanket

Someone requested a “hugs” version of my “love blanket”, so here it is!

They were posting in the Facebook group: Mosaic Crochet World and they said they love Rosina Plane’s Hugs square and specifically asked if I could make this. I hope it lives up to the expectations!

This blanket is nearly the same as my “Preemie Love Blanket”. It is the same size and it uses the same background: “Many Hearts”.

The original “Preemie Love Blanket” – the inspiration for the “Many Hugs” baby blanket

Just like all my other patterns, this pattern includes a chart as well as written instructions for both of my favorite techniques: interlocking crochet and overlay mosaic crochet.

I have included right- and left-handed instructions for both techniques. I have a few patterns that have words on them and instead of forcing all the left-handed crocheters to read each line from end to beginning I have reversed each line already. See my other patterns that include left-handed instructions in this ravelry bundle: https://www.ravelry.com/bundles/left-handed-instructions-included

This chart for this pattern is 121 x 121, which means your blanket will be about 30″ square if you meet my gauge. When I crocheted the Preemie Love Blanket I used a 5 mm hook instead of my usual 4.5 mm hook but I only made it 0.5 inches larger 🤣 so obviously the hook didn’t force me into a looser tension enough.

You can get this pattern on Etsy or Ravelry.

At one time I had considered getting rid of Etsy because the fees were too high but I have adjusted some things and I hope it can remain a viable option for awhile longer.

On Ravelry, I have set up a fun promotion: you can get “Many Hugs” FREE with a minimum purchase of $25 from my Ravelry Store. You MUST add “Many Hugs” to your cart at the same time as your $25 purchase. No code needed, offer expires June 9, 2021.

I have a lot of patterns in my drafts and a lot more in my head. I have been quite slow at getting them out lately while I focus on my family. I know you all understand and I am thankful for your patience and continuued support.

I also sent out an email to announce this new pattern and there’s a game: tell me how many free patterns were available in the email to win a free pattern of your choice from my Ravelry store! See the newsletter here: https://mailchi.mp/37fa8354833b/manyhugs

Hearts Shawl: Valentine’s Day 2021 Promotion

From now until February 14, 2021, you can get my Many Hearts Shawl pattern for $1 CAD! It is written up for interlocking crochet and mosaic crochet and also includes a chart. Plus, there are instructions for adding pockets.

But, wait! There’s more!

At the end of February, I will get my Facebook group to vote for their favorite project photo and the winner will receive a FREE pattern of their choice! Your project (a shawl with the “many hearts” design) doesn’t necessarily have to be completed to enter and you can use whichever crochet technique you prefer (interlocking or mosaic).

You may have already purchased the pattern (it is also available in the Hearts, Hearts, Hearts eBook) or perhaps you’re clever enough to extrapolate from my Tutorial Heart pattern (it’s ok if you need the pattern!).

Check out my tutorials, pick some great contrasting yarn, and let’s get hooking!

Interlocking Tutorial

Mosaic Tutorial

(Please note, I have another tutorial on the mosaic stitches that uses “sc/dc” like my current patterns are written. This old video does show the actual hearts pattern though.)

Fine print: you can send me your project photos through email if you are not part of my Facebook group and I can post them for you to be voted on. Or you can add them to my Ravelry group with the same set of permissions (that I download the image and allow my Facebook group to vote).

Voting will begin February 28 and close on March 1, 2021. The photo with the highest number of votes will win a free pattern of their choice (to be gifted on Ravelry or emailed directly).
