2022 Valentine’s Bundle

My 2022 Valentine’s Day bundle includes a blanket & 2 large square designs with hearts and swirls.

Interlocking & Mosaic

Each design in this bundle can be made using the interlocking crochet technique or the overlay mosaic crochet technique. Both techniques use the same chart for this bundle (so you will see the interlocking mesh dots in the overlay mosaic crochet designs).

For more information on these colorwork techniques see https://ashleeslint.com/tutorials/interlocking-and-mosaic-crochet/.

Size

The blanket (My Heart is Full of Love) in this bundle is a larger than those in my baby blanket category and thus fits into the normal blanket category.

It begins with 80 windows in the interlocking crochet foundation which means it needs 161 foundation stitches for the overlay mosaic crochet version. The finished blanket will be about 40″ square; the mosaic crochet version may be slightly larger once you add the envelope border.

The large squares (Swirly Hearts & Flying Hearts) begin with 40 windows in the interlocking crochet foundation and 81 stitches in the mosaic version. They will be about 20″ square.

Original Blog Entry

I was never one of those teenage girls who had perfect handwriting or dotted their i‘s with little hearts. My hand could never move as fast as my thoughts and I just wanted to get the words on paper as quickly as possible.

That translated to some messy handwriting… but some carefree art!

This little bundle of patterns feels like the swirly doodles of grade school where crushes and who-likes-who are a major distraction from math and science. I like the carefree fun in these lines.

There are two large squares (chart size 81 x 81; 40 windows to start with when using interlocking) and one blanket (chart size 161 x 161; 80 windows in the foundation for interlocking) in this set. You can join all three together or use the squares as pillows or join the squares to other squares for a blanket of your own.

All three samples in this bundle were crocheted by Angela Kermack using the overlay mosaic crochet technique.

Interlocking Mesh Dots?

You’ll notice that the mosaic sample (pink and white in the images above) has the interlocking mesh dots as part of its chart. Lately I’ve been adjusting the charts for the mosaic crochet options so that the interlocking mesh dots aren’t visible, but this set has not been adjusted.

What’s in a name?

The name for the baby blanket, “My Heart is Full of Love“, comes from the cliche saying that I said repeatedly every time I had a new baby. Your arms get full, but your heart gets fuller!

The square titled “Flying Hearts” looks like wings to me. And “Swirly Hearts” is just the description of what I see as well.

CynCityCrochet used the interlocking crochet technique for this sample of My Heart is Full of Love. She began with white as the Main Color (MC).

Bundle or Individual Squares?

Each of these designs can be used separately, but the bundle will save you 44% versus buying each pattern individually.

The blanket, My Heart is Full of Love, is available on both Ravelry and Etsy but the large squares, Flying Hearts 40 & Swirly Hearts 40 are currently only listed on Ravelry. If you prefer using Etsy please contact me and I’ll pop them up there as well.

40? Why do all the titles say 40?

If you’re familiar with my designs you may already recognize that I have quite a few squares with “40” in the title.

This is a size reference. See more large squares.

These large squares begin with 40 windows in the foundation row when you use the interlocking crochet technique.

When I first started designing I only created interlocking crochet patterns. It was a few months before I added the overlay mosaic crochet technique to my patterns and rather than renaming the old patterns I kept the “40” because it still works as a size reference for the mosaic crochet patterns too.

When the chart is 81 x 81 it is 40 windows wide for interlocking crochet; with mosaic crochet a chart of 81 x 81 will be 83 stitches wide (we add one stitch to each side for the joining and ending stitches).

Both techniques end up being about 20″.

In Conclusion

I can’t wait to see all the creative ways you will use these patterns! Some of my instagram followers have suggested pillows and wall hangings.

I hope you LOVE them as much as I do!

Please share your projects on Facebook (either in my group: Ashlee Brotzell Designs or in other Crochet groups). It really helps me get my name out there as a designer worth checking out when people share their beautiful projects with everyone!
