Baby Crab

The third design in my Baby Ocean & Othersseries is this cute bubbly, crab

Interlocking & Mosaic

Choose your preferred colorwork technique: interlocking crochet or overlay mosaic crochet. You’ll receive both options, so why not try both?

Each file contains the fully written pattern and charts.

Size

With the interlocking crochet technique they begin with 60 windows in the foundation row. The mosaic crochet option is 121 stitches wide.

If you meet gauge, each square will be about 30″ / 76cm. You can use these individually as baby blankets or join them together to create a large one-of-a-kind blanket!

Original Blog Entry

We were at the park the other day when we learned our city puts on a summer program. There were two workers doing crafts and playing games with the kids.

My youngest just played in the splash park, but the older two enjoyed making a crabby craft! Their favorite part was putting glue on the paper and then going over to the sandbox and putting REAL SAND on their picture!

Their little pictures are so adorable but I am not sure where to put them without getting sand all over the house. sealed

Alice & Remi really enjoyed the craft at the park.

Snappy Crab

I hope you think my crab pattern is adorable too!

It is just one crab mostly. A few snappy pincher claws from some friends have made their way into the frame too. And I was thinking those small “circles” were bubbles or maybe strings of pearls, but they are actually squares so I am not sure if they look as well as my imagination wanted.

Baby Blanket Size

These baby blankets finish to 30″ square when you use worsted weight yarn and match my gauge. You can use any yarn and hook really, just do a gauge swatch to see how large yours will be. The chart is 121 x 121.

Like all of my patterns, I have included the written instructions for interlocking crochet AND overlay mosaic crochet, plus one of the charts includes X’s for overlay mosaic crochet!

Important Pattern Details for “Baby Crab”

Like all my designs, you’ll receive one file for the interlocking crochet technique and one file for the overlay mosaic crochet technique for this pattern.

On the to-do list: I will be updating this pattern (and many others) to have a second mosaic crochet option where I’ll adjust the charts to be solid. Read more about the different techniques at https://ashleeslint.com/tutorials/interlocking-and-mosaic-crochet/.

Baby Crab was originally published in July 2021. I used the same chart for both the interlocking crochet option and the overlay mosaic crochet option. With this colorwork option you can see the interlocking mesh dots even when you use the overlay mosaic crochet technqiue.
