October Mystery Patterns
These little designs were published as mysteries. Would you crochet something small if you didn’t know what it was?
Interlocking & Mosaic
I always include both colorwork options: interlocking crochet and overlay mosaic crochet.
Both options include the full written pattern and a chart (yes, the mosaic charts have X’s).
During the mystery phase the charts won’t be included so that the surprise stays a secret until the right time! After the surprise is over I will add the charts.

It’s a Mystery Until It’s Not
In October of 2021, I surprised my Facebook group with a little mystery design using overlay mosaic crochet only. In order to keep it a surprise I omitted the chart. No one knew what they were crocheting because there was no photo and no chart, only a written pattern.
It was small, so quite a few people were excited to take up their crochet hooks and give it a try. After a few days I asked for everyone to post their photos and the surprise part was over; it was the cat from my October Gnome square!
Updated 2 Years Later
I have finally created an interlocking crochet pattern of this little cat!
Originally it was just mosaic crochet because I whipped it up super quickly one night and it was just part of an instant-gratification surprise for my Facebook group members.
You will now receive one file for each colorwork technique (with the fully written pattern AND charts since it’s not in the secret-phase).
2023: Finally another surprise!
Apparently I never even created a blog entry for this design! I guess this page was all I made at the time.
2023’s Mystery
I never got around to making a mystery design in 2022, but in 2023 I decided to bring back the mystery! This time I offered the written pattern in both interlocking crochet and overlay mosaic crochet. Having both colorwork techniques is kind of my “thing”.
Again, it was a written pattern only so that the charts wouldn’t ruin the surprise.
And this year I also made it easier to download the pattern by sticking it on Ravelry! I had been using the files in my Facebook group but distribution was getting tricky.
Free Downloads
I wanted this to play as a fun game for my Facebook group members (again) so I originally offered the files as a free download within the group. There were quite a few having trouble with that and then I remembered that I could list it on Ravelry and give my group members a code to download it for free!
I forgot that I get an email for every free “purchase” and I was overwhelmed with over 300 emails in the first three days of putting it up. Doh! But it was worth it!
The free code expired November 16, 2023. Head to my Facebook group and get the code, then go to Ravelry to add it to your library.
2024: Better late than never
November is the New October
Oops! Time got away from me but I didn’t want to hold onto this design for another year so I’m publishing it a month late but still calling it “October’s Mystery Pattern”.
Free Pattern
I have posted the written pattern for both techniques to my website. These will remain free to view forever.
There will be no chart posted online. The mystery will be revealed as you crochet from the written pattern.
When the msytery is over I will add a paid PDF option that will include charts.
